And yes, I know, I KNOW it's based more on the books - I had bought the entire set for my partner an he was filling me in on things as we went through it - he has also told me that due to massive inconsistencies and outdated styles, the books are almost unreadable today.

    But this film - BLEEECCCCHHHHHH!!!!!!!

    TERRIBLE movie.

"Return to Oz" is merely not very good.

"One of the worst films ever made" is a MUCH lower standard. It looks more like this:

There are thousands of throw-away silent films we'll never see that I'm sure were pretty abysmal. And of course, there's tons of tiny films made by local production companies across the country that can be pretty bad. See also: Birdemic.

Not the recent Oz film with James Franco and Meg from "Family Guy".

Also, by combining two of the books into one story, it makes things a little messy, but it's a really fun, dark movie. Honestly, are you comparing this to any of the other cheesy Disney movies of the late 70's through mid 80's? I'd vote for Herbie Goes Bananas as a much worse film than Return to OZ.

Oz is the original American fairytale to me and as such retellings often change things in the same way that European fairytales are changed. Sometimes it's to the good and sometimes not so much, but I actually quite like the darkness of it. That might be a European thing!!!

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return. Oh god, even the title is stupid. I saw the trailer in front of Frozen today. According to the trailer, it's not actually from a studio or anyone. It's directed by Will Finn of Disney animation fame.

It looks worse than Return to Oz...

    Wha?

Prana IS a studio. They made the Hoodwinked movies.

And the Tinker Bell and Planes movies as well, but you're not supposed to know that. ;-)

No, I get that it obviously is made by a studio. But from what I remember it never mentions a studio. Or gives a "from the people who brought you..." It was weird.

Maybe it seemed weirder since every animated movie trailer today touts it's pedigree throughout; I guess they're ashamed of Hoodwinked if that's their biggest claim to fame. And it doesn't help when your trailer is edited to look identical to something that would be the third trailer on a Barbie DVD. Unfortunately I speak from experience.

I also thought a May release date was pretty gutsy.

No it's not there are worse and it couldn't have been THAT bad it was nominated for an Oscar.

ROZ was way better then the latest Oz movie imo. I came home and watched Roz to wash the total crap fest that was OzGaP from my mind.

This year's Jackass movie was nominated for an Oscar (for makeup), so keep that in perspective

I'm not sure what to think of it, but I know enough that there's a 0% chance of me ever watching it, so I'll go ahead and judge
