Award committees seem to love musicals - Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, Dreamgirls, Chicago and Moulin Rouge were all heavily nominated. The comedy/musical category at the Globes has always been a weird category IMO. And the Globes tend to throw up some weird patterns as the HFPA has such a small membership (less than 100 I think). It is much like the Tonys whereby only a small committee is responsible for the nominations.
