I think it might be simply the fact the there was no standout song (they were all so good) that the votes split. I would have to think that or I would think the Academy has no taste whatsoever.

Originally Posted By u k fan Someday is the song played over the end credits of Hunchback. It's performed by All-4-One in the US (Eternal - in case anyone's heard of them - in Europe). It was originally written for Esmeralda to sing in place of God Help the Outcasts, but was swapped for something more intimate. The best version of this song, imho, is in the German stage show where Esmeralda sings it with Phoebus and the people of the city just before Frollo toasts her (yes, she dies). When you listen to the words and place it in the context of a person who knows they are about to die, but still wishes for a better life "Someday" it means so much more than any cheesy Pop version could ever do justice!!!

In fact, she has some of the funniest moments in the film, but they're generally more subtle, so some viewers may miss them altogether.
