Originally Posted By ToonKirby Douglas did do his own singing for the song, which I think does sound like him - its not a difficult song vocally, after all. It was pre-recorded and then lip synched on set (very common practice for musical numbers in films, especially during that period), which may be why it sounds "different" to you. He did learn to play guitar for the number and also ‘choreographed’ (those little guitar flips) the number himself.

From what I remember the movie version 3rd verse was: Harpoon Hanna, had a face that made your shudder. Lips like fish hooks and a nose just like a rudder. If I kissed her and held her close to me, there's no sea monster big enough to ever frighten me. The CD recording has a much nicer 3rd verse (which escapes me).
