We should also arrest anyone caught carrying a gun in public, and I'm sure given his concern over deaths due to irresponsible, selfish people, Donny would agree.

We've cut drunk driving deaths by more than 50%, Donny. Have we cut gun deaths in half in the last few decades?

But by all means, keep reminding us that when we put stricter laws in place, deaths went down.

Wouldn't you like that number to be lower? Wouldn't you like to see that number cut in half like we as a nation have done with alcohol-related deaths?

Why can't we regulate gun use like we do alcohol use? Why can't we license the sellers and hold them liable for selling to people who have no business getting a gun, like we do with bars and liquor stores? Why can't we make sure that all gun sales are made through licensed dealers, like we do with alcohol sales? Why can't we put taxes on ammo and gun sales to be used for public health programs to reduce gun-related crimes, like we do with alcohol sales?

I knew this was where you were going.

As sticker regulation of drinking and driving occurred the number of alcohol related deaths decreased.

Thank you for making the point for striker gun control.

As would guns be if we instituted some common-sense restrictions on them. The gun nuts like to say that it's all a slippery slope and we can't institute ANYTHING because before you know it the gub'mint will take your guns away. Of course, that's nonsense, and the restrictions we have on various a). physical things, such as alcohol, and b). intangible things, like freedom of speech - which is not unlimited either , i.e. libel, "fire in a crowded theatre," etc. - show that restrictions are only restrictions; they're there for a reason and they don't lead to the wholesale banning of the thing in question.

So if we instituted the very reasonable and limited restrictions being proposed, the average person would still be able to go down to the gun store and buy his or her first - or 39th - gun very easily.
