And I think it's possible to be disappointed by any destination if your expectations are misguided going into a trip. If you know what to expect before you get there, and you're okay with it, chances are greatly reduced to being disappointed.

Of course, if you're a big-time Disneyland fan, there's a very good chance WDW will disappoint no matter what. But that's for a different thread....

    I love it.

I would rather be there than anywhere else.

Interesting. I think it's terrible in every way. I absolutely loathe Vegas. I wouldn't go if it was across the street.

Las Vegas has taken tacky to garish perfection. How can you not love it??

"Paying $99 per day to be trapped in a park surrounded by other peoples’ children and fully grown adults who like Disney? No thanks."

If you don't like Disney, or kids, or have kids who like Disney, you don't go to WDW. I don't think it should make a list of top 10 disappointing destinations because the writer doesn't like Disney or being surrounded by kids.

Those are pretty much the same things that kept me away from WDW for so long (my first trip was 2 years ago). I absolutely love DL, and have since I was 7. I only went to WDW because my husband and kids wanted to, and I ended up loving it more than I thought I would. I still love DL more, but I am going to WDW again with the kids this summer (3rd trip in just over 2 years) and I am really excited!

I can understand someone being disappointed with WDW, but I really have to question what they expected, given the grievances listed. As several people have mentioned, cocktails are in line with what you could find in any major downtown or tourist area (and about $1-2 cheaper than the same thing at DLR). And soda and bottled water is more expensive than at the 7-Eleven, but noticeably cheaper than at most collegiate or major league sporting events. While there is plenty to be disappointed with, I find it interesting that these items were singled out

And I agree that I found Las Vegas disappointing. I really enjoyed it when I was there as a kid and wasn't old enough to do anything. I went with some friends when I was 18, and had a pretty good time, but it sort of felt like a prequel to what was coming up next. I've gone twice after turning 21, and both times I've enjoyed the people I was with, but couldn't care less for Vegas itself. I think that as an introvert, a 24/7 in your face place like Las Vegas (or NYC) is pretty much my worst nightmare

I do agree with Hollywood being on the list. While it's gotten better for tourists in recent years, it's still pretty much an average industrial city without much that's especially fun to look at. It has a real mystique to it, but the reality just isn't there

Liberty Island is nice, but it was a lot better back when you could go up inside the statue (I think you still can only go in the base). If you pair it with Ellis Island, which is included in your ferry ticket, it's definitely worth the trip, since there's a great museum there and a lot of historic sights

Temple Bar is pretty much like any other bar/nightlife district in the world, but with an Irish-ness to everything. I'm not sure what the author was expecting, but it fit my expectations exactly

I think a huge part of what makes something disappointing is the difference in expectations and reality. With a lot of these, I'm not sure what the author expected, but if you do any research at all you should be able to get a good idea of what it's really like. Especially in the internet age, there's no reason that things like a $2.50 bottle of water should be drastically different from your expectations

And I am surprised New Orleans didn't make the list. Just about everyone I know has been disappointed by that place. But maybe it's not PC to say that in our post-Katrina world.
