The exhibit and the store really don't take up that much space. So if they wanted to make room for Star Wars Land it would seem they'd need to close down other things in that same area as well.

The tram tour, Streets of America, and LMA have all been rumored to be on the chopping block for years, so this seems like it might indicate that something is beginning to happen. For the time being, I would assume that the AFI contract is expiring and they've chosen to not renew in preparation for future changes, rather than anything immediate
