So my question is, is 8 days too much? We have planned that long mainly because being stationed in Europe, this will be our last trip to DL for probably 5 or so years. Just want some opinion if we are overkilling it at all?

If al else fails use the pool and may be visit some other places in the area. But going with your little one, it let's you enjoy the little things like toontown and redwood challenge trail at leisure.

DD and her husband and 4 year old just stayed for 7 nights at their timeshare a few blocks from DLR. They had the best time, taking it slower and doing things like davewasbaloo mentioned. They thought they'd go to the beach or take some drives but never felt the desire once they hit DLR soil :)

I have stayed at the DL Grand Californian (I was lucky to have a friend use her Disney Vacation Club for four nights at the hotel for me) and that was fantastic. I walked out of the hotel into DCA and DD. However, I have yet to be able to justify the expense since then (the room I had was something like 300.00+ a night). For that price I can stay at the Candy Cane for almost three nights and I enjoy it just as much. The two hotels are not in the same category (the Candy Cane Inn is more of a Motel then Hotel), but I never plan to do more then sleep and rest at the hotel.
