Well, with me going to Stateline next weekend I really don’t have the “extra†$$ to be doing anything. So I try to convince her to clean her room instead. That doesn’t go over so well. What is it with 17 year olds and their rooms? Don’t they like to be able to walk through it instead of over it? Apparently not, since the begging continued.

I wobble on over to our bulletin board which houses our various coupons. I tell her that we still had 4 free miniature golf coupons. It’s in Anaheim, a 20-minute drive, so all that would cost is a bit of gas money. Sounds good to me, I tell her. Take it or leave it. She takes it.

We get to Camelot Golf land and give the worker 2 of our coupons. We do a round of golf and have a great time. The families before and after us on the course are super great people, which usually doesn’t happen for us, so all in all it’s a great afternoon so far.

The 18th hole comes up and DD says she really doesn’t want to go home. You see, I’ve been saving money for this Super Bowl trip for a month now and DD feels I’ve been neglecting her. She gets picked up at school by me anytime she has to stay late for journalism, I’ve taken her to school plays, I’ve left early for work to take her to concerts, she has a digital camera, an Ipod and a portable DVD player, and an aunt that takes her to DL whenever she wants, but she’s neglected just the same. Darn teenagers.

Anyway, back to the story. We skip the 18th hole and start playing another golf course. Some may call this stealing, but I call it budgeting. And if someone said anything I still had 2 free coupons in my wallet. We play out the second course and I win another free game on the final hole. Score!

We are just a mile or so from DL, so we decide to walk DTD and look in the shops. We see a line forming outside of the House of Blues and DD decides she wants to see who is playing.

As we are standing by the box office trying to catch a glimpse of who was appearing, a lady walks up to me and says she has an extra ticket if I want it. I ask her how much. She says nothing. So I take it. I look at the ticket, and it says “Daughtryâ€.

At this point I don’t know who Daughtry is, so DD says it’s probably Chris Daughtry’s band from American Idol. I tell her she’s probably right, but it’s not my procedure to go to a concert if I’m really not sure who’s playing. And, I am not about to become a dweeb and start asking who this band is. So we do the most logical thing we can do.
No we don’t give away the ticket, we buy one more. The ticket seller guy tells us there are only 3 more tickets left and then it will be sold out. We buy one more ticket for $20.00. I figure that’s not too bad a price, and it will shut DD up. At least for the rest of the weekend anyway.

We look around and see that there is quite a mixed crowd – Kids, old folk, young folk, and all music lover types. Just a fun, fun crowd.

The first band starts playing and the best we can figure out is that they are called CinderRoad. At least I think that’s what they were called. Kind of rock-blues-y. Really, really good. And the lead singer is very good looking. Young enough to be my son, but still a looker. Very enjoyable band. We rocked. We screamed. We cried….well, not cried, but you get the picture.

Next up was Eve to Adam. If you closed your eyes and listened to them, they had kind of a Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Lynyrd Skynyrd feel to them. I couldn’t not look at them too much because the singer was one of those pacer guys. Kind of like a rubber duck in a shooting gallery. Back, forth, back, forth, back, forth…I was getting woosie. Thank goodness for short sets.

Now comes who we are all here to see. Daughtry. My oh my. What a great guy he seems to be. I am not familiar with most of his songs, but I promise you I will be shortly. This band is very talented and very humble and knew how to work the crowd.

Chris tells us that this is the first show of his tour. I have NEVER been to a first show of anyone’s tour so I am excited. And, the music rocks! Totally rocks! No other words for it. They did a cover of U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday†that just blew me away. All of us “over 30ish to 40ish†gals were pumping our fists to the sky for that one. And we were all told to jump in unison, so we did. Repeatedly. Who knew aerobics would be offered as well? Good times!

Some gal threw her G-String on the stage and Chris says “Well, that’s a first†and blushes. How much more down to earth can you be? When he took off his over shirt girls were screaming, which made him blush again and slightly shake his head. This man is very humble and I hope to see that continue. It’s rare to see a band in which conceit and insincerity hasn’t already been exposed.

Their set was done but we wanted more. “Daughtry! Daughtry! Daughtry!†How could they deny us on such an original chant as this?

They come out again. The crowd screams and stomps and yells. We are granted two more songs before the house lights are turned on. DD and I realize that we’ve actually just been to a concert in which none of the performers swore. This was very, very refreshing. Talent was definitely present. I definitely recommend you see Daughtry if ever you have the chance. The End.
