    The genre bores me.

    Marvel theme park indeed.

It would be interesting to see if they put something temporary in the Studios (a show, or similar) how many guests it would attract!!!

    They can't be reused because:

    1) The Marvel park in Dubai could still be built; and

    2) The Marvel rights have been licensed so all creative development on the park is owned by the developer Tatweer and not Marvel.

Philippe did actually say that this was all conditional on Walt Disney Studios Park being built out to plan - basically that EuroDisney wouldn't attempt to execute a third park until the second gate was up to scratch.

The cynic would say that this was just all part of the negotiations with the local and national authorities to extend the existing agreement. EuroDisney is more and more turning into a real estate developer and manager (sound familiar?) and there is a lot of land to develop. That whole region has been very successful as a suburban development.

What? No idea on what basis you reach that conclusion. Sure the comics may not sell as well as they do in the US but the box office grosses for Marvel movies in Europe is exceptional - even under-performers like Hulk and Incredible Hulk found audiences in Europe. Both Iron Man movies were big successes in the UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. Now whose five largest markets are those?

Europe doesn't have an extreme thrills park on the scale of either Cedar Fair or Six Flags Magic Mountain - and considering the popularity of parks like Alton Towers and the former Uni park in Barcelona one could surmise that there is a demand.

The tough nut to crack with a park based solely on Marvel is how do you appeal to all demographics? Which characters do you select for attractions knowing that they are just one flop away from obscurity? The jury will be out for another few years on whether Marvel can continue to crank out successful movie franchises - I guess if The Avengers and the rebooted Spiderman work then we'll know the answer.

Whether there is demand or not, is this really an area that Disney should be getting into? Their demographic has been "whole-family" since Walt originally built Disneyland, and I think they risk really hurting their image - more than they already have thanks to parks like WDS - by going the Six Flags route.

    What? I can't have an opinion? :)

I dislike comic books and the "drama" surrounding them. That's all.

I agree with you, EPCOT Explorer -- the Marvel franchise has already been done -- both merchandised within an inch of its life -- and as a Theme Park -- see: Islands Of Adventure which has an entire land devoted to Marvel superheros.

Just because Disney now owns the Marvel company, doesn't make it any more tired and overused.

Wonder if Disney could get ahold of the Hanna-Barbera character library? I think a Jabberjaw land would be money!

No, it just nixes the concepts for the Dubai park. Those cannot be reused by Disney, they are owned by the developer. Anything Marvel themed would have to be done by WDI.

I'm on the fence about a Marvel park. On one hand, I do love the comics and movies, and even enjoy Islands of Adventure. I could have a lot of fun at a Marvel park. On the other hand, it's Disney, and I'm not sure I like them going for a six flags approach with coasters everywhere. However, what are they really supposed to do now that they own Marvel? The characters do lend themselves to thrill rides.
