Durring my 2000 and 2004 trip I got to see what the inside of Space mountain looked like with the lights on. I was Amaized at how Disney can put a Coaster inside a Building. Im looking forward to my next Trip to WDW in 2008

While it would be nice to see the ride get rebuilt from scratch into a copy of the Disneyland version, it seems this is not meant to be. Instead they will add loading gates, add some kind of wheelchair loading area with a transfer track and they are likely to replace some track sections though I assume this will mostly be in the load/unload areas to accommodate the new wheelchair loading facility. Nothing more was said about adding any new effects, cars or even a sound system right now.

And I was disappointed by how bright it was in there. I was also disillusioned earlier in the day, when riding the people mover, we caught a glimpse of Space Mountain being worked on, so we saw the track inside with all the lights on. On one hand, it was kind of cool to "see behind the curtain" so to speak. On the other hand, it ruined the illusion to some extent. The fact that the ride needs a ton of maintenance and isn't nearly as dark as it should be anymore didn't help the illusion either.
