We are considering a trip to WDW (have only ever been to DL) but in my research I've found quite a lot of reports of snakes, frogs and toads around the resort properties. The snake issue is not good but we can handle that, the big problem is that we are very very frog and toad phobic!
So my question is have any of you WDW regulars noticed a lot of frogs around the resort buildings, in the trees or, heaven forbid, in rooms or on balconies?
We are thinking of staying at OKW if that makes any difference to the answer.

Thank you all so much in advance, you may be saving two fully grown, yellow-bellied women from heart attacks :D

I am a city girl. I dislike all things creepy and crawlie and if I EVER, ever found a snake at WDW or otherwise, you would hear me scream.

The few frogs I've seen in WDW are the small kind. I've NEVER had a frog in my room.

How are you with lizards? I've seen more lizards than any other small critter. And by lizards, I mean the really cool dark green ones that don't do anything except sit there.

If they are spikey kinds of lizards like Iguanas then I don't mind them.

It's mainly frogs (slimey green frogs ewwww) and toads (horrible bufo toads) that will make us run screaming, lol.

And thank you very much for not laughing at me :)

All of that to say that I'm phobic about anything creepy crawly or reptilian. So I understand your worries.

I have seen frogs on property, but that was taking the back route from the parking lot to our room at All Star Sports. I imagine if you stay on the main paths that don't butt up against the woods, creeks or other natural setting you should be fine.

I've heard about those cockroaches and they sound like the big bush cockroaches we get here in Australia that fly right at you (ewwww) gross but I can handle bugs :D

I have to thank you all as well for not ridiculing me. I know it's an irrational fear but it's a strong one that can't be budged :)

One summer at Shades of Green I saw raccoons wild turkeys deer alligators. Last Easter weekend I saw a raccoon clinging to a tree under the wood sidewalk along the Rivers of America in the MK. And I have seen an alligator under a bridge in the AK.
I just remembered I did see a big toad that scared me sitting on the railing by the busstop outside of the MK. It was at the busstop for Pop Century. It just sat like it owned the place. I almost put my hand on the railing which would have really been bad. I do not like animals at all as in "No you can not have a dog or cat unless you want that instead of a mother."
Not good memories for Mothers Day but thanks for asking! Did I traumatize you too?

I think Disney keeps the landscaping and insect and rodent problems to a minimum perhaps because of all the concrete. You feel as if you are surrounded by trees & water & nature but the presence of humans and buildings etc., creates a buffer. Maybe? It is hard to explain but all the people population at WDW will keep you fairly safe. What time of the year do you plan to visit?

At the same time, stay at any of the resorts with indoor hallways (Contemporary, Poly, Grand, Boardwalk, etc...) and you're pretty much guaranteed not to see them. Oh the moderates I think Coronado is least likely with the dry southwest theme and plants. At the values, avoid the far-end buildings like Country in the Music resort.
