The seventh installment of Walt Disney Treasures will be available December 11, 2007 in a limited supply just in time for the holidays. Predating even Mickey Mouse, the legendary and rarely-seen “Oswald The Lucky Rabbit†was Walt Disney’s first big animated star, and having recently returned to the Disney fold, comes out of the vault for the first time ever on DVD. The silent shorts made from 1926 to 1927 with Walt’s personal touch, are revitalized with a brand-new score specifically made for Walt Disney Treasures, Wave VII. “Chronological Donald, Volume 3†features the most prolific of “Walt’s Fab Five,†the short-tempered but hilarious Donald Duck in rarely seen solo shorts dating 1947 through 1950. “Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic†is a comprehensive look at the “Happiest Place on Earth.†The centerpiece of this volume is a new documentary with archival footage, including Walt’s own words, as well as new interviews that reveal the magic and manpower behind one of the world’s most famous destinations. Each volume features noted film historian, author, and critic Leonard Maltin. Each volume is individually numbered, with an authenticity certificate, and an exclusive lithograph in the collectible, unique packaging tins and available just in time for the holidays, in a limited supply only.<

So it appears that the Legacy series will only be the 4 True Life sets, and we will get 3, not 4 as usual, Treasures this December. As far as I'm concerned, the 2 series could co-exist side by side, with Treasures collecting together everything from Walt's time, like shorts, TV movies and specials, and the Legacy series could collect everything else, including more recent things. So, I'm glad the Treasures are not cancelled after all, but somewhat annoyed that the Legacy series was killed, am glad that we're getting more from Donald's long career, but disappointed the there will be only 3 this December and that Destino has gone missing again from the upcoming list. Oh, wait, this wasn't an early April Fool's post was it? I hate those.

Delay the release of those next two Legacy discs so we can switch the boxes on 'em!" Dang pencil pushing pinheads. I hope the last Disney fan from the Disney home video division turned off the lights on his way out. You think I'm full of it? Keep an eye on the Oswald volume. If it comes out as a single disc, you'll know they just painted the already-into-production Legacy releases silver to appease all us silly series-obsessed fans. And given that only 11 1/2 of the Disney Oswalds still exist, and some of those are in the hands of private collectors, what are they going to fill two discs with?

That's one of my favorite specials that I taped off of Vault Disney. <<ToonKirby: “Chronological Donald, Volume 3†features the most prolific of “Walt’s Fab Five,†the short-tempered but hilarious Donald Duck in rarely seen solo shorts dating 1947 through 1950.>> That's all? It doesn't seem like enough for 5 hours on 2 discs...but I guess they're stretching Donald's legacy to 4 volumes a la Mickey. Well... according to Wikipedia: 1947 -Bootle Beetle -Chip 'n' Dale -Crazy with the Heat -Donald's Dilemma -Sleepy Time Donald -Wide Open Spaces 1948 -Blame It On the Samba -Daddy Duck -Donald's Dream Voice -Drip Dippy Donald -Inferior Decorators -Soup's On -Tea for Two Hundred -The Trial of Donald Duck -Three for Breakfast 1949 -All In a Nutshell -Crazy Over Daisy -Donald's Happy Birthday -Honey Harvester -Sea Salts -Slide, Donald, Slide -The Greener Yard -Toy Tinkers -Winter Storage 1950s -Pluto's Christmas Tree 1950 -Bee at the Beach -Corn Chips -Hook, Lion and Sinker -Lion Around -Out on a Limb -Trailer Horn Hmmm, not including Pluto's Christmas tree or any extras, and assuming that each short is 10 minutes, the entire list is about 5 hours, so I guess it works out. And while we're at, here's the rest of the Duck's shorts, although I don't know if they're going to even this out. 1951 -Bee on Guard -Dude Duck -Lucky Number -Out of Scale -Test Pilot Donald 1952 -Donald Applecore -Let's Stick Together -Uncle Donald's Ants -Trick or Treat 1953 -Don's Fountain of Youth -The New Neighbor -Rugged Bear -Working for Peanuts -Canvas Back Duck 1954 -Donald's Diary -Dragon Around -Grand Canyonscope -Grin and Bear It -Spare the Rod -The Flying Squirrel 1955 -Bearly Asleep -Beezy Bear -Lake Titicaca -No Hunting -Up a Tree 1956 -Chips Ahoy 1959 -Donald in Mathmagic Land -How to Have an Accident in the Home 1960s -Donald and the Wheel -The Litterbug -Steel and America -Donald's Fire Survival Plan I'm wondering if 1955's Lake Titicaca was the same short used in Saludos Amigos?

I was looking forward to seeing that and also finding out what other things they filled out 2 discs with. Oh well...now I'll have to wait for that Darn Disneyland DVD for another year. That's the one that I'm most annoyed about. It will have been 2 years since it was announced on DVD that it actually appears...and 3 different incarnations later...

The previous post is right - they'd be triple-dipping if they use the same DL shows. I'd like to see the Steve Martin 50th show on there or something. And how they'll turn 8 Oswald cartoons into two-discs will truly be a marvel.
