The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
    The Fox And The Hound
    The Black Cauldron
    The Great Mouse Detective
    Oliver & Company
    The Rescuers Down Under
    Hercules
    Fantasia 2000
    The Emperor's New Groove
    Atlantis: The Lost Empire
    Lilo And Stitch
    Treasure Planet
    Brother Bear
    Home On The Range
    Chicken Little

All Pixar features except Ratatouille (which is probably because it's too recent) made the list as well.

While I've seen most of them, there are definately a couple that I've never even heard of before (America Pop, Waking Life). I wonder how much of it was decided on by actual quality of the movie, and how much was getting diversity (was Robots really better than some of the ones left off? Not IMO)

These lists are fun but silly. They end up being an exercise in "balance." Snow White will be number one, even though half the list is better than it.

And Waking Life is a great movie.

Waking Life - Rotoscoped artfilm from a couple years ago. OK, maybe.

I take it from this list that foreign films are not eligible, otherwise I'd have to open a can of whoop-tush.

Other flicks that are more deserving IMHO, from a nominating committee who obviously doesn't realize that there were other studios besides Disney before 1987:
    Gulliver's Travels
    Mr. Bug Goes to Town
    Gay Purr-ee
Mad Monster Party (hey, if Charlotte's Web is on there...)
    The Phantom Tollbooth
    Heavy Traffic
Coonskin (but they'd never live it down)
    Raggedy Ann and Andy
The Last Unicorn (perhaps too outsourced?)
    The Brave Little Toaster
    Rover Dangerfield
    anything by the Hubleys
    anything by Bill Plympton

And WHERE IN THE HECK IS LILO AND STITCH? It's clearly superior to at least 2/3 of that list. The rest of FerretAfros's list, I agree are borderline at best.

But really, ROBIN HOOD? MADAGASCAR? SOUTH PARK? ROBOTS? Why not go whole hog and honor Return to Neverland, Hoodwinked and Eight Crazy Nights? Sheesh.

Admittedly, I shamelessly remove the ones I don't know. And yes, Lilo and Stitch is as good as half of these.

    First cut:

    ALADDIN
    BAMBI
    BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    CARS
CHARLOTTE'S WEB - assuming its the newer cgi version
    CINDERELLA
    FANTASIA
    FINDING NEMO
    HAPPY FEET
    THE INCREDIBLES
    THE IRON GIANT
    THE LION KING
    THE LITTLE MERMAID
MADAGASCAR - not that its great but it is, after Shrek, the best "of its type"
    MONSTERS, INC.
    THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    101 DALMATIANS
    PETER PAN
    PINOCCHIO
THE POLAR EXPRESS - for its uniqueness
    SHREK
    SHREK 2
    SLEEPING BEAUTY
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
    TARZAN
    TOY STORY
    TOY STORY 2

    The next cut:

    ALADDIN
    BAMBI
    BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    CARS
    CINDERELLA
FANTASIA - overrated but certainly an important movie
    FINDING NEMO
    HAPPY FEET
    THE INCREDIBLES
    THE LION KING
    THE LITTLE MERMAID
    MONSTERS, INC.
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS - not my cup of tea, but I have to pay it a certain respect
    PETER PAN
    SHREK
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
    TARZAN
    TOY STORY
    TOY STORY 2

    and my top ten:

    BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
    CINDERELLA
    FANTASIA
    FINDING NEMO
    THE LION KING
    THE LITTLE MERMAID
    THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    PETER PAN
    SHREK
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
    TOY STORY
    TOY STORY 2

    Just my two cents worth.

yes, I know that's 12 or so, but I was hoping no one would bother to count.

    Nope. It's not.

AFI thinks that Hanna-Barbera is better than Lilo and Stitch.

I can't help but notice none of the 70s Lord of the Rings / Hobbit movies are listed. No surprise there. What a lost opportunity they were.

Probably the best thing Hanna-Barbera ever did. I don't mind it being on the list.

Oh, absolutely. But it was in spite of the animation, not because of it.

    >>"The Hobbit" animated movie was a TV movie.<<

And still better than some of the titles on the list. Animated in Japan, though.

Come to think of it, was any of Charlotte's Web sent out-of-country, or had HB not started that yet?

My kids love "The Last Unicorn" and "Quest for Camelot." I can't figure out what it is about those two that's so appealing.

I think the Corpse Bride is actually one of the best films on this list. (Disney films aside). Actually, I think it's better than a few of the Disney films listed. It's a really unique twist on the formulaic "love at first sight" premise so rampant in animation.

TheRedhead, weren't you the one who made fun of "The Producers" a while back? If you were, I may just stop talking to you. ;) What are you gonna go after next? "Casablanca"? "The Godfather?" "Citizen Kane?" (Actually, I probably wouldn't give you a hard time about Citizen Kane.)

But there are plenty of movies that this country loves and reveres that I'll never get - "Shrek" being one of the biggest, and one which will probably be in AFI's top ten. Often I am the cheese, and I stand alone.

I actually think that "Corpse Bride" might be my least favorite animated film in the last decade. Sorry. I hated it. It becomes especially annoying to me that it was put ton this list and Lilo and Stitch (my favorite animated film) wasn't.

I haven't seen enough of The Corpse Bride to comment and I agree that Snow White will probably be on the list despite the fact that there are at least 10 "better" (IMHO) movies on the list!!!
