Next to that was another something coiled. My curiosity got the best of me and I reached down to touch it. When it rattled I took off running/screaming/crying, told one of the adults and someone took care of it (with a shovel).

    I would pet another snake (not a rattler, of course) in a controlled situations.

    Seriously, I have no problem with snakes, they are wonderful creatures. Rattle snakes don't bother me at all, I just give them a lot of respect and a lot of leeway.

    My father took me on 'snake hunts' when I was only three, and I learned to care for them at that age.



    Oh, yeah, only about one in ten people understood why I named my pet 'Lefty". I've always used that as a judge of character.

    I don't really know why an adult would want to own one, however. They don't seem like very fun pets.
