The other choices here are Home Depot and one of the grocery stores and then this place called Cost U Less which is like a Sam's Club I guess. Their trees are pretty small though and since we have such high ceilings we need a big tree.

I couldn't do a fake one and miss out on the wonderful smell!

For many years (over 20) we would go cut our own live tree at a tree farm. Now that DS's are older and sooooo busy, it makes more sense for us to have the fake one handy and dry and already lit, ready to go when we have the window of opportunity to set it up and decorate it. And you can have it up to enjoy for a longer period of time since you don't have to worry about it drying out and dropping needles everywhere.
I do miss the smell of a live tree though, so I have a real wreath on the front door and take a whiff everytime I walk past :).

When I lived in Ohio we used to get live trees with the rootball still on them and then after Christmas we planted it in the yard. We had to dig the hole and cover it before the first freeze. Lots of good memories of that!

Since we've been in Anaheim the past couple of years (this will be our third Christmas here, already!) we switched to artificial. I went to Michael's and bought a few different sized trees and scattered them around the apartment. It looks really sweet... and I have my cinnamon pine cones and Christmas Tree & Cranberry Orange jar candles from Illuminations, so the place smells great. It's the next best thing for now.

    =)

This year for the first time, DH and I went to Costco and bought one already cut. We didn't even open up the wrapping string to judge it's shape. It's on the side of the house in a bucket of water. We'll put it up when we get home from DLR next week.

I'm thankful that my mom decided to get an artificial one a few years ago :) It was huge though and took 3 of us to get the thing up. This year she got the "retro" one from Kmart and it is great!

An artificial tree is in our near future :)

I did pick up a live wreath, pointsettas and a rosemary plant that had been cut like a tree to add some real holiday fragrances to the house and yard. I love the smell of real trees but I do prefer the artificial ones for decorating.

But i have to admit having a artificail tree is sometimes easier with setting up and what not and it was easy this year since the lights already came on it. We actually have a really good xmas tree this year. You would have thought it was a xmas display that we bought.

The lights are all in the right spot, and it packs nicely.

We tried a live tree with our two cats when they were babies, but they kept wanting to sit in the tree. It was knocked over so many times that we gave up. They don't do that in the fake tree.

( I haven't put them all up this year as we going to DL )

They are artificial but it's funny we don't use that term here.
    They are simply called trees.

Most people in Aus would not have a real tree, it's just not the norm to have a real tree cut down to celebrate the holidays.
In fact I don't know anyone that will have a real tree this year!

So we call all our Christmas trees...Trees! LOL

This is the one thing we argue about in our house, I insist on a real tree, as it's a family tradition, DH would rather have a fake one, hopefully should be picking it up either Friday or Saturday this week from our local farm shop, which is where we always purchase it from, it will probably be a nordmann fir.
