Which the reaction of just about everyone including the South Carolina Democrats.

The way I look at it, he can't do any worse.

There was a person here locally a few years ago that was running for the transit board. He was a newcomer up against a 3-termer running for re-election.

During a League of Women Voters candidates forum, he proposed a bunch of ideas, like that all the bus routes should be re-evaluated and that they should switch the fleet over to clean air hydrogen/hybrid busses.

The incumbent pointed out that while those were great ideas, all the busses already had been converted over a few years before and that the bus routes were constantly evaluated and lines were added or removed regularly based on need.

In short, it was such an embarrassing performance that the incumbent was actually quoted as saying he felt pretty bad for his opponent and didn't want to pile on with anything else. The candidate essentially conceded the election that very night, said he wouldn't campaign or anything, he was out.

Then a funny thing happened. It was too late for his name to be off the ballot, so come election day, his shorter, all-American sounding name won handily even though I bet a huge percentage of people voting for the transit director had no idea what the job entails.

So he won the election and then, HE TOOK THE JOB! lol The poor incumbent was pretty furious and it made news around here for a few days. But I think thsi happens all the time -- people voting for various government offices not knowing a thing about the candidates and voting anyway.

They think he may be a plant.

All I can say is that South Carolina politics is really screwy!

The problem was that this guy was physically standing here but his brain was in a totally different dimension. In other words he was wacko. He would write thousands of words and send them to news papers to print. Since it was an election year he got the attention that normally would not a have been available to him. He would write sometimes up to 200 words without a single usage of punctuation. Not because he wasn't aware of them but because the thought was ongoing, jumping from thought to thought without regard to making sense or even being understood. It was scary. He actually got into a statewide election without the voters really even knowing who he was, just the ethnicity of his name.

I've always loved the story of the John F. Kennedy who was elected Massachusetts state treasurer in the 1950's. Of course, he wasn't *the* John F. Kennedy, but people voted for him anyway.

It's plenty interesting with nuts like Michelle Bachman in there already. Interesting we got. Competence is what's lacking.

The "upside" - if you want to call it that - is that anybody going up against the current SC GOP congressman - Jim DeMint - would likely be toast anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

But there are valid questions remaining about where this guy got the $10,400 to register as a candidate.

In short, he's a sideshow - interesting in a kind of dirty and prurient way, but irrelevant to the big picture.
