I didn't notice that the sound or lighting was much different from when it closed. I don't know am i the only one? Perhaps if they hadn't hyped it i would feel a little differnt. I loved the changes to Jungle and Haunted Mansion. However, if disney had promoted these changes, I might feel left down as well.

Remember all the rumors about Space? Even though Disney said it was going to be the exact same track, people claimed differently right up until the end. You can't buy into the hype on any internet board.

You're right-- the big changes we were all warned were going to ruin Pirates just aren't there. Not at all.

I think the Imagineers did a phenomenal job. They did exactly what they set out to do...."Plus" the attraction with additions that many guests, especially the younger ones, expect now from a ride title "POTC" while maintaining the look, feel and overall essence of the attraction Walt built for all the traditionalists out there. Its all really well done imo. Then again, I've only seen it on video. I'll get my chance to check it out for myself this weekend when I head to DL!

Because the only people who should have 'expected' big changes are those who buy in to the junk people with no real knowledge write.

It just seems to me that if someone dares say anything that is even closely perceived as 'negative' -- they're dismissed or told to not be so negative, or 'you have to see it in person to judge it.' Perhaps. Sometimes, I'll have a particular opinion about what I might feel about an attraction at Disneyland ['Finding Nemo Submarines' seems like a lot of work and money for nothing to me], but then I'm pleasantly surprised. The cool thing is that even if I form an opinion early on, and yes, even if I have an opinion BEFORE I EVEN SEE THE ATTRACTION FIRST HAND, I might change my mind after seeing it. Doesn't mean I was wrong before. Just means I didn't have high hopes for it. See what I'm sayin'? We change our minds all the time. That's the beauty about being human.

In many instances, one has only external information on which to base an opinion. What I disagree with is the idea of drawing conclusions based on information that cannot be verified. The changes to PotC were so overhyped that for many, the expectation could never live up to the reality. (Whether that expectation was the greatest thing ever, or the utter destruction of Walt's classic.) Based on trusted reviewers, or simple factual information, it is perfectly reasonable to form an opinion.

Form an opinion? Yes. Freak out long before there's anything to freak over? No.

I haven't been on the online message boards a lot lately, and I haven't really read much about what's going on. I have friends that still work in the park so they told me when it was reopening and I thought I would go down to take a look. Now Pirates closed about three months ago and shofrtly after they put up these big signs advertising the changes that were coming. I remember thinking that the changes must be pretty big for it to be closed for so long. When I first walked up to the tram area there were even billboards advetising the reopening of Pirates, there were banners along the walkways and even the cover of the park maps were advertising it. When I walked up to New Orleans Square, there was a huge mass of people all around the attraction. Seemed like the whole area was being used as a queue for the ride. If that's not the ultimate in hype I don't know what is. From my point of view though, it turns out to be a lot like Space Mountain. Disney is advertising the return of a classic attraction as if it's a new attraction for the summer, yet there's not a whole lot different about it. The ride was nice, and maybe as a purist I took more enjoyment out of the changes in the first half of the ride, than the addition of Jack Sparrow, but I feel that most guests won't notice the audio or lighting changes - they will only notice the addition of the Jack figures. I can certainly see why people are let down by it. My gut feeling tells me that if Pirates of the Caribbean is around in the next ten years, the movie additions won't be.

I was also really dissapointed that alot of Paul Frees dialogue has been taken out. Frees and Thurl Ravenscroft are THE voices of Disneyland. It's a bummer anytime their work is taken out. Pirates is no longer a ride I need to go on everytime I go to Disneyland. Chuck
