I think Simon calling that kid a jungle monkey, or whatever he said, a few years ago was the worst. There was some backlash against it and Simon hasn't gone that far again. (At least, IMO.) It's is one of the creepy aspects of the show. I mean, I watch it every year, but I'm uncomfortable with my own participation in it. Speaking of people who think they're hot stuff, I was so glad they turned that smarmy football player guy away. He really thought he was amazing. Not so much.

You would think that the parents would stop it, but I know from experience that many parents think their kid sounds wonderful when they are awful. That one lady last night was talking about how she had a vision of her daughter singing and has always told her that she had the gift of singing. I expected her to be good, but she was just another example of a tone deaf parent. My oldest daughter has sang at Opry's and different contests around the area and one time, the contestant was so bad, it was all you could do not to laugh out loud. The parents actually paid for her to enter this contest. Thank goodness for that girl it wasn't on tv.
