The chick from Seattle, the crying one. I'm just "eh" about her. She's way too emotional and, while her voice was okay, she sounded like she was yelling, not singing. Plus, nothing particularly different than the original singer, Melissa Etheridge. Not sure she'll be able to handle any of the stress.

    Ho hum.

It doesn't bother me so much if it's someone arrogant who thinks they're hot, um, stuff, and needs a good slap of a reality check.

But someone like the manflower guy I feel bad for. He was obviously a highly sensitive guy, could sort of sing (in his way), and no doubt he's had friends and family telling him he could sing well. The screeners would have known better, and sent him into the lion's den just to get laughed at for our entertainment. If it's a "look at me, I'm the world's greatest EVAH!" guy (or girl), okay. Still not great, but okay. But with someone like that, it just seems cruel.

Yeah, everyone knows the drill by now, and these people should know what they might be in for, blah blah blah. Doesn't mean I have to like intentional cruelty.

It did seem cruel because there was no aspect of humor. Just a very awkward, innocent kid. I really wish his parents had stopped him from going. I wouldn't let my kid go on the show unless they could really sing. (I'm not easily swayed by any child's voice. LOL)

When he said "man flower", I just wanted to scream "stop talking! You're making worse!" at the tv.

At least the judges aren't as mean as they used to be. I think Simon calling that kid a jungle monkey, or whatever he said, a few years ago was the worst. There was some backlash against it and Simon hasn't gone that far again. (At least, IMO.)

It's is one of the creepy aspects of the show. I mean, I watch it every year, but I'm uncomfortable with my own participation in it.

Speaking of people who think they're hot stuff, I was so glad they turned that smarmy football player guy away. He really thought he was amazing. Not so much.

You would think that the parents would stop it, but I know from experience that many parents think their kid sounds wonderful when they are awful. That one lady last night was talking about how she had a vision of her daughter singing and has always told her that she had the gift of singing. I expected her to be good, but she was just another example of a tone deaf parent.

My oldest daughter has sang at Opry's and different contests around the area and one time, the contestant was so bad, it was all you could do not to laugh out loud. The parents actually paid for her to enter this contest. Thank goodness for that girl it wasn't on tv.
