I think it will do a lot of business, especially when the entire complex is open next May.

    But only time will tell.

And yes, the Upscale Bowling Center has one area designed for meetings and away from the actual Bowling Alleys.

Since that is their major market, don't you think they would plan for the primary guests????

Well of course, Darkbeer, but as an event industry professional I can tell you firsthand that there aren't a lot of facilities as well appointed and suited for a variety of special events as The House of Blues. Certainly not a movie theater for goodness sakes. Besides, why would a meeting planner hold business in a movie theater at AGW when there are dozens of available breakout rooms in an assortment of sizes at the Convention Center with complete AV support?

I don't know that I ever actually ATE at the Lanai, but I did consume mass quantities of beverages. There's a Tiki Bar in Alameda called the Forbidden Island, and they have a drink named in honor of the long passed Lanai.

Maybe. Given that there are a limited number of lanes I'd be curious to know just how much private convention business these kinds of places get in similar markets.

<<Based on national shopping trends these days, it will probably underperform. Traffic is declining at malls everywhere, and the chain restaurants similar to the ones going in at AGW haven't been doing well lately either.>>

I think that this is particularly true for the neighborhood mall, as day to day consumers are tightening their belts. But AGW's target demographic is primarily :

    1) People on vacation, who will probably be a little likelier to crack the wallet open than when at home.
    2) Convention attendees, many who have expense accounts.

I simply am relaying what I do. Generally when I'm at one of these things, I'm busy doing work. If I were to take time off for one day, I'd not spend it at the local mall.

I don't recall ever seeking out a shopping mall as a destination while attending a convention. If you do venture outside of the convention hall or hotel, its usually to visit the local sights or more touristy type venues. Shopping malls are ubiquitous in our country and don't show up as a blip on the radar scope anymore when you are traveling out of town.

I recall a convention I went to (I don't go to many) in San Antonio. The Riverwalk restaurants were mobbed by attendees. I'm sure some ate at the hotel, but

Of course. You go to the front desk and ask them what they recommend. Then they tell you that there are a bunch of restaurants at the mall on the next block.
