    Excerpt:

On Election Day, Nov. 4, 2008, participating Krispy Kreme stores will offer one free star-shaped doughnut with red, white and blue sprinkles to each customer wearing an "I Voted" sticker. While voters may not always agree on the best candidate, voters can agree on one thing: Celebrating one of America's most coveted constitutional rights can be oh-so sweet.

You are aware, are you not, that that was based on a true story? McDonalds was the culprit/victim. You got game pieces with the name of the event, and you'd get a free drink if the US got a bronze in that event, fries if they got a silver, and a Big Mac if they got a gold. And the food came with more game pieces!

They'd done it for previous Olympics, but they ended up taking a bath in 1984. A lot of people were living large and gaining weight during the 84 Olympics.

More than once that summer I redeemed a game piece for a Big Mac, and the game piece that it came with was also a Big Mac Winner!

I also recall Mickey D's being mobbed at lunch time! I also seem to recall that in the long term it was a win for them because people kept coming back (out of habit I suppose) after the promotion ended. Plus if you won a burger, you still ended up buying a coke and fries, which are high markup items.
