    Anyone feel like trouble-shooting? Please?

Then try the reset: Hold the sleep/wake button and the home button for around 7 seconds until the phone powers off. Release the home button and then the Apple logo will appear (release the sleep/wake button) as the phone powers back on.

Finally if that doesn't work, do a restore. Plug your phone into your computer, launch iTunes, select your phone under devices. Make sure you complete a back up (simply syncing should do backup the phone) then select restore. Your phone will be wiped and the software reinstalled. At the end of that process you will be prompted to restore from a backup or as a new phone. Select restore from backup and your latest backup (it will show you a time and date so you can see your last back up.)

If you're really worried about at backup and want to make sure it took, go to Preferences> Devices and you'll see a list of backups for all your devices synced with that iTunes library. You should see something like "Jim's iPhone" and the date and time you completed the back up.

While you're plugged into iTunes, confirm you have the latest software update for the phone.

    Let us know if/what works!

Apple Support has been very cool about talking with me on the phone and 'holding my hand' through the various processes.

Have to go do stuff, but will return and try the 'restore to new' option shortly.

    Stay tuned...

The next step, according to the Apple Support on the phone -- do the other kind of restore that does NOT use my existing stuff on iTunes.

We'll try that final chapter and see what's what.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
