I seem to have an issue with the internet connectivity on my Android today. Nothing is working and I checked the settings and nothing has changed there. I'll assume it's just down.

Have you tried taking the battery out and restarting the phone?

Much like a computer, smart phones need to be powered down and restarted once in a while. Also, your service provider may have had issues with towers and connections.

I had heard it would mess with GPS but not other smartphone functions.

I would agree with what others have said about rebooting/pulling out the battery. When I was using my original Droid (now have a Droid 3), sometimes I would lose 'net connectivity and that was often all it took to get back in business again.
