But, now I have a new reason to get into it. Would it be any surprise it's Disney related? Recently, but many weeks ago, after we just got home from church, he mentioned he's got some new roses out in the front. He told me the name. I kinda drew a puzzled thought in my head, "The what rose? Nah, probably something else." Short while later, I asked or he mentioned again the name. So I asked where is it again, he said he moved it out back. I kneeled down, read the tag, "The Disneyland Rose". Description: "The Official Rose of the Disneyland Resort". Now I know why he mentioned it to me - he knows what a fan I am of Disney and Disneyland itself. So he's in the kitchen as I'm reading the tag. I start with the questions as my interest grows, "Where did you get this?" He said Lowe's. I thought I asked him how long ago, but didn't find that out til a few weeks later. I called Lowe's garden center, they said they've not come across anything like that lately and weren't familiar with it. Tried Home Depot, nada. Our neighbor said try this local nursery called Evergreen. Still nothing. Armstrong Gardens was the only other option that came to mind, but my logic was if even a nursery didn't have it, why would they? Well, it never hurts to ask. And this time it paid off. Infact they just told me lately of a new feature JUST added to their website called bare root pre order, well close. I found the catalog she was telling me about. Annnnnnnd jackpot: <a href="http://armstronggarden.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=535&osCsid=29dd1afa2a726288f8c291562695f2e9" target="_blank">http://armstronggarden.com/sto...2695f2e9</a> "A row of this lovely floribunda will turn your garden into the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’. The magical blend of copper, apricot, orange and pink will have you whistling while you work in your own ‘Never-Never Land’. The flowers have up to 25 petals and are presented in lush sprays with a light fragrance. Excellent disease resistance." I looked it up shortly after my friend showed me the one he got. Turns out it's been the official rose of DLR as of 2004. When I read it was the official rose my first thoughts were something they've been using for decades, but it's all good Well he says ours he left out a little too long probably in the front where there was too much sun coming in at that spot (right by the front door), so he moved it to the back. I asked him if it was resurrectable, he said yeah because of the other little buds on it, but it still ended up dying on us. So he took it back to Lowes a few weeks ago. The places online I found that talked about it gave detailed instructions on how to take care of it especially in certain weather conditions. Something trimming the canes or cutting off the canes when it gets too hot. But, I wanna get one to see if we can take a better crack at it. Unfortunately though, as you'll see on that webpage, they won't be available for pickup til January

He said it's the one closest to us, which is a little ways up Hwy 76, but he said he got it 4 months ago.

Roses need a lot of sun, 8+ hours a day. They don't like to be wet on the leaves so they need ventilation, room between them and other plants. They are heavy feeders so the soil they are planted in must be rich in organic nutrients. They need good well drained soil too because they like water but not to get their feet wet too long. They need at least an inch of water or rain a week and in hot dry weather a little more. They are the queens of the garden and like to be treated as such. I heartily recommend you pick up a book at the library on growing roses (pruning is important). It will save you money in the long run. The link I gave you will get you roses for planting in the fall. Where we are at, midwest, I plant only in the spring since our winters can be brutal to newly planted roses. Jacqueline

I rarely feed them, like a couple times a year, which I know I need to improve upon, but I still get a lovely display! I think I'm OK with pruning but I'd like to see a demonstration to make sure I'm doing it as well as I could. Good luck with your gardening adventures, Deej! I love gardening. It's relaxing and rewarding.

I do think they're beautiful, but I don't want to think about maintaining another rose bush again.

I guess it's sprayed though for that? According to what it says on Armstrong's link I posted. Oh, also on their website it says their Pointsettias are also found at Disneyland. But they look ok I think. I wanted to get one, take a picture and send it to LP Live, which I was going to when we still had ours but it didn't look too good. So I thought, ok we'll just get another one and I'll buy. Like finding a rare and very beautiful needle in a haystack. Thanks, Digby7 for the info! As LuLu said, I too live in SoCal. More specifically Oceanside a mile or two away from town. We have a back patio with some decent shade, the front has some good shade depending on which part of the house. We have like a 50 ft. palm tree between one side of the house and the fence bordering our neighbor's backyard. Oh yes, something I wanted to mention in my opening post, again although I was never into gardening, I always thought Disneyland, like in many areas, really shines in that department. I started to remember all the times I've been there and it recently occured to me thats one of the things that makes the atmosphere and experience there so unique and enjoyable.

DJ, the "disease resistance" isn't a way the plant is treated or sprayed, it's just bred to be a strong plant. Some roses are delicate and don't stand up to mildew or other problems, and some are more resistant.

I'm thinking of getting a few more Disneyland roses and planting them all together in a grouping.

Your local nursery is a good place to look for plants because (hopefully) they have been in the local climate and you should be able to see if they are doing well or not. Roses arent very finicky in so cal (compared to the east coast that is) as long as they get enough light and fertilizer and you prunes once a year. Sounds like a lot of work and it is but it is well worth it. LuLu, they give demonstrations on rose pruning and care at Otto and Sons in Fillmore each spring. They have an amazing display of roses and are quite knowledgable. People come from all over so. cal. to see their yards in the spring. <a href="http://www.ottoandsons-nursery.com/otto-day.htm" target="_blank">http://www.ottoandsons-nursery...-day.htm</a>
