So anyone own one? Thoughts? Critiques?

I think it's safe to say so.

Although, why? You still have to buy the "books," but now you must first shell out a TON of cash for this added device which needs the STILL-additional financial outlay of a power source.

Downloading books was easy. They don't take too long to remotely download (meaning you don't have to use a USB cable or anything.) She doesn't have a memory card in hers but was easily able to put 3 or 4 books on it.

I'd love to have one but I won't be spending the $. I don't travel enough and would rather spend the $ on books. ;-)

I think I'd have to hold one in my hand to know whether or not I'd like to buy one. Are they available in stores or only online?

I live in an area where the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and other newspapers are not available on the street the day of.

With a Kindle I can read these papers the day they are published?

But Amazon don't make the Kindle available outside of the US so I can't get one!

Rsey, I don't know the answer to your newspaper question but I'd be very surprised if you didn't get the newspapers on their day of printing. As I said, whole books download quickly and with very little effort. I'd be shocked if you had to wait a day or more for a paper.

I believe you can get daily papers on it at least that is one of the claims they make. My MIL doesn’t use it for that though. She says her sons gave her back the gift of reading as she was unable to read the small font in paperbacks and the Kindle can adjust to a larger font. They also have good gift ideas for years to come by giving her Amazon money to order books....for us it was a win/win gift!

I'm sure if I get a Kindle I'll still buy books for my library. But I primarily collect history titles, books on film, and of course, Disney. I'd love a Kindle for fiction and popular non-fiction for much cheaper than the print edition and something I'm not necessarily interested in owning long-term or reading again.

As far as the extra power source, there are plenty of solar chargers out there that will do the trick. The bonus of them really is that you can carry many books with you and if more magazines and newspapers catch on, you can have some variety.

I love to read and figure over my 45 or so more years of life the initial cost should be worth it. I travel, and I think it would just be more comfortable to read than paper books in different positions. Also, a lot of the classic I must have are available free. It would be cheaper to buy the fantasy series I like and thinner too. It looks great to be able to have MANY books available in one thin paperback size.
