06/08 - Holiday Inn Resort (Manchester Way) $50
    12/07 - Hilton Convention Way $55
    06/07 - Marriott Convention Way $50
05/07 - Courtyard by Marriott (buenapark) $45 (this was the Pirates Premier weekend in Disneyland)
04/07 - Hilton Suites $40 (near Angels Stadium)

Unless I it's absolutely necessary for me to walk in to the park I do priceline. Really the only times I don't are Halloween (we do the DCA party w/costumes)...

Personally I would book something now like the Holiday Inn on walnut or the Holiday Inn Express (both those with AAA average around $100 a night) if that is too much - look around and find a room with cancelable rates (some have advance purchase which you can't cancel). I would do this to be sure I get a room if those are set dates.
You can then priceline it when it gets closer and if you can get a better deal then cancel your first reservation.

You realize that the weekend you will be there will be Candlelight and that will effect the room rates and availability.

Thanks gottaluv for your rundown on the hotels. Sounds like you've gotten nice places at great prices!

I always bid on 3 stars and start low.

Our hotel of choice is Hojos, but when we want a cheap night we go through Priceline. It is listed $40 two stars and get Extended Stay. It is right behind the Gardenwalk. It isn't as cool as Hojos, but it's clean, its in walking distance. They only clean every 4 days (unless you pay $5 extra per day), the bed is a little hard. You do however get a kitchenette which is nice for when you don't feel like eating in the parks

I have accepted that once (my original bid was $35...). Before you do the pick you price thing you can see what hotels are going for in their regular buying section - I usually look at the lowest priced 3 star in the regular area and bid half that price... It will tell you the median price for a 3 star but I just use the lower price.
