Then I viewed "There Will be Blood" and changed my mind. It was not really a "Western", but took place in the same general era. I decided there were some stories that really could not be told effectively in any other time. This movie just served to reinforce that belief. The conditions driving men's actions at that time just did not exist in any other era.
