But I came around to deciding that was just word games, and would force atheists and others to participate in a religious process that they really had no interest in. Today marriage is not just a religious matter, but it has many legal impacts controlled by US and State law. Therefor, if there were to be any equality not just "legal unions", but "marriage" would have to be sanctioned by the state for all. I maybe came to it late, but then so did Obama.

I'm just not sure if it was used intentional for the Pride movement. The article I've posted is about the 24 hours celebration. But I really like that picture and it's so cool that it can be used for the Pride movement.

Just out of interest, did Disney support that movement? I know big companies like Apple and Starbucks did. The Walt Disney Family Museum did so too.

We met a gay couple on the Disney ship and they wanted to get married as soon as it is legalized. I'm so happy for them, that they finally can do that. Now it's about time, the same thing happens over here.

Similarly, the photo of rainbow-colored Niagara Falls is part of their evening light show and has nothing to do with the recent SCOTUS decision. I saw a nearly-identical photo of the falls with colored lights, but the water was frozen. Similarly, many of the other landmarks that have gone viral have done rainbow lights during Pride for years (like the Empire State Building); only a few of them (like the White House) did it specially just for the decision

From my understanding, Disney was a relatively-early adopter of letting their employees share their insurance benefits and things like that with their same-sex spouses, but they never actively/publically campaigned for it. Some Disney employees made one of those "It Gets Better" videos that were going around a few years ago, but I don't think it was officially sponsored by the company or anything. In general, Disney tries to stay out of social politics

I guess that's the best, because I've always had the impression, that Disney has many conservative fans. But since Disney is a company based in California, it has always been open minded company. At least that's what I think.

I still think the most surprising thing happened during last year's WDW TV holiday parade special - a solid minute or two was devoted to Neil Patrick Harris talking about his husband and their two kids and how much they enjoy the park. They even put up a picture that showed the happy family. Seemed pretty gutsy for a mega corp to do.

    Though maybe not "gay-NASCAR" gutsy.

    Ignore this.

mrkthompsn can't handle the way his life has changed so drastically since the decision on Friday, and he needs to whine about it every change he can.

It seems like any company in the creative/entertainment industry will have to deal with these sorts of issues more than most companies. If they want to hire and retain the best talent, they need to make their policies accommodating to their employees. It's great that they were able to make the changes that they needed to without trying to make themselves the center of attention while they did it

Personally, I think that is a great way to show support for an issue without having to make some sort of campaign out of it (like Chick-fil-A or Starbucks). I get tired of hearing people who are faux-offended by some company saying/doing something, and them claiming that they're going to boycott them forever. It's much easier when I can just pay the company to provide the good or service that I want, and don't have to worry about them going off and representing some political issue

Nah, I don't think having NPH host a show is particularly gutsy right now; he's very mainstream and has been an A-lister for several years, and has always been quite open about his family. His role as the super-womanizing Barney Stinson won him a lot of fans who wouldn't traditionally be drawn to a gay actor. I don't think there are too many people left out there who are shocked or horrified by him these days

A gutsy move would have been in the late 90's when Ellen DeGeneres came out on her sitcom (and then in real life), and ABC continued to air it (until it got cancelled due to dwindling audiences) and Epcot kept her version of the Universe of Energy running. Heck, her image didn't really start to recover until after she voiced Dory and then got an afternoon talkshow. Disney's ties to Ellen nearly 2 decades ago was kind of gutsy; NPH a few months ago...notsomuch
