I was at MK last night and got to see the New Year's fireworks. They do it two nights in a row to accomodate the huge crowds expected. Also, this gives the fireworks folks a chance to dress rehearse before the big Dec 31 show.

It was an awesome show, complete with 10 perimeter launch points. I also saw that ALL of the fireworks that were launched from way back behind the castle were also being launched from "Fireworks Island" out in the Seven Seas Lagoon. And this is no small number of fireworks.

It was fun to watch as the fireworks were timed to the music, to see how they launched and burst in two separate locations so closely on the mark.

Disneyland fireworks comments -- With all due respect to the Disneyland Fireworks shows, which are marvelous by the way, they simply can't compete with the sheer spectacle, size, and volume as the WDW MK shows. Out in Disneyland, they have to worry about upsetting the neighbors. Here at WDW they even put up with the occasional brush fire.

By far the BEST fireworks show I have EVER seen is the Disneyland 50th fireworks. 2nd place is the Holiday Wishes with FULL perimeter fireworks back in '03 (unlike the Hallowishes I saw this year with perimeter fireworks in only about 180 or 270 degrees versus the full 360 from the Holiday Wishes in Dec '03.)

I noticed the same thing. They use 8 launch points, covering about 240 degrees of the circle. On New Year's they did the full circle, though.

I had a guest complaining to me that because of the two launch points on New Year's they had to keep turning around to see them both.

I suggested that maybe the fireworks going on behind them out in the lagoon were mostly for the benefit of the lagoon resort guests, and not necessarily for the viewer at the castle hub.

The full-circle perimeter only happens around the MK hub area. The perimeter fireworks actions may be repeated out in the lagoon as well, (they did that last July 4) but I did not see this at New Years.
