The brighter paint looks like it might highlight that it's simply a painted floor, but I'll definitely wait to see it in person before passing judgment I wonder if they have any plans to bring some of these changes (or even some of the 1983 changes) to MK's version, which is painfully stuck in 1971. They recently added some great effects to the extended queue, which just makes the ride itself look even worse

Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "The new stuff looks really nice, and certainly doesn't overpower the old stuff like Alice's additions can." Interesting comment. I rode the new Alice for the first time recently and didn't find the enhancements overpowering at all. The ride was very enjoyable. On a side note, we rode Pooh on my last trip and I spent quite a bit of time on the ride breaking my neck trying to see the Country Bear trophies to no avail. Boy does that ride suck. I remember it being mediocre, but compared to the upgraded FL rides it's terrible. Not only that it sticks out in Critter Country like a sore thumb. Hopefully it'll be upgraded soon or moved out for something better.

Difficult to get to, and when you get there not much is there. I prefer the setup at WDW. Splash in Frontierland, Pooh in Fantasyland.

Originally Posted By FerretAfros >>Aren't the rides identical?<< They're not identical (WDW and HKDL are), but there are far more similarities than differences. I agree that WDW's version is *slightly* better than DL's, but the overall differences are negligible. I think the ride's popularity in WDW speaks more to its location in a high-traffic area, lack of other dark rides in the park (just Pooh and Pan), and the popularity of the Pooh characters (which I've never understood, but obviously they're huge) The one thing that I really like about DL's version is the Floody Place scene. Although it's all pretty simple effects, it's very effective and has some of the neatest tricks in the park. But once you leave that scene it's back to the boring and illogical collection of scenes that gave the ride its reputation. I also think that DL's version was hurt from the beginning, since it was a C-ticket replacing an E-ticket (one with 2 theaters, to boot!); in WDW is was simply replacing one C-ticket with another, so expectations were pretty low from the start

Some projections would really enhance this ride. The whole pooh floating through blackness was completely off. It took off to fast and was gone before we even got into the black turn room. The ride needs to be reimagineered pretty quickly. The three heads are on the wall behind you as you see pooh stuck eating honey. You need to turn completely around. It's hard to see if your in the third row.

Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan >>The Pooh ride at Disneyland is one of the poorest dark rides I've seen in a theme park.<< It really is. It's the kind of dark ride you expect to encounter at a non-Disney park that is trying to go for a Disney look. If you rode it at a non-Disney park, you'd think, well, that was okay, good for them for trying anyway. But it is such a let down for a Disney park, just doesn't meet the standards for that kind of ride. From the Disney Store window non-motion figures to the what-the-hell-is-going-on storyline, it's just a sad misfire. And the ride vehicles are really strange and ugly. For the amount of space that is there, it's a decent-length amount of trace that could be replaced with something far more engaging and up to par. Hopefully they will get around to a total overhaul soon. There's a lot of material to work with in the Winnie the Pooh movies, from the characters interacting with the text of the book, the beautiful watercolor 100 Acre Wood and charming, beloved characters. Or maybe the ride is totally meta and is intended to make us feel like Eeyore upon riding it!

Just when you think you've started to make sense of everything, suddenly you're thrown into a birthday party. Because...well, that's not exactly important. Fittingly, Eeyore got us his favorite thing: disappointment. >>And the ride vehicles are really strange and ugly.<< Not to mention, uncomfortable for anybody taller than about 5'-10". Where exactly am I supposed to put my legs?
