    (Editor's note: Gag! Cough! Choke!)

    * “Despicable Me”
    * “The Dreams of Jinsha”

    (Editor's note: The editor missed this one. The editor is irked.)

    * “How to Train Your Dragon”
    * “Idiots and Angels”
    * “The Illusionist”
    * “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”
    * “Megamind”
    * “My Dog Tulip”
    * “Shrek Forever After”
    * “Summer Wars”

    (Editor's note: Will be released for one week in a theater in Covina (!) in early December.)

    * “Tangled”
    * “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue”

    (Editor's note: Played for one week at the El Capitan in Hollywood before the DVD release. That counts.)

    * “Toy Story 3”

    (One more editor's note: Tales from Earthsea isn't eligible. Too much time elapsed between its worldwide debut and its US release.)

    I predict Dragon for the win.

    (Too many Pixar Oscars plus Lasseter p*ssed off the community by pulling out of the Annie Awards. Sorry Mr. Unkrich.)

    How To Train Your Dragon

    with TS3 taking the gold dude. Caveat: If Tangled is a runaway success, then it has a good chance.

    But I wouldn't even bet my lunch money on this one. Dragon is mighty good. So is Idiots and Angels.

    I think you can safely say that Dragon is a lock for the Annies. :)

    Disclaimer: Have not yet seen The Illusionist, Summer Wars, Cats and Dogs, Jinsha, Tink, or the completed version of Tangled. I needs ta get busy.

    I think this might be another year Pixar gets nominated but doesn't win.

    First, I agree that the animation "community" is small compared to the entire Academy that votes. That being said... I wouldn't discount its impact entirely.

    Second, Pixar has won the last three Oscars and over half of the total (five out of nine) since the category was created in 2001. Time to spread the love around.

    Third, I believe Dreamworks is long overdue for another Oscar. DWA has only won once for Shrek, beating out Monsters, Inc. in 2001. Kung Fu Panda did not win against WALL-E, even though it was a solid film and better than Shrek, IMHO.

    And most importantly, I believe Dragon is a better film. Don't get me wrong... I love TS3. It's in my top three of Pixar films (the other two being TS2 and Nemo). I just believe that Dragon has a more solid and engaging storyline, with memorable characters and outstanding animation. The flying sequences in IMAX 3-D were amazing and worth the price of admission alone.

    Truthfully, I cannot help but feel that many Academy members will be swayed, albeit marginally, by the ugly history between Chris Sanders and John Lasseter. Chris and Dean delivered a terrific film with Dragon. John was a moron for letting Chris escape to another studio. I could see the schadenfreude prone members voting for Dragon simply for the payback factor alone.

    I hope Chris and Dean win. They pulled off a miracle by turning around a flailing film in such a short period of time. They definitely deserve the Oscar.

    I'd be happy with either winning, but I think overall, Dragon will/should win. TS3 was great, and might get a non-animated nom for Best Picture.

    I think it's a pretty safe bet that it will be EITHER TS3 or Dragon; I'd have a tough time with that vote myself.

    Mega mind - derseves a nomination. I don't really like dream works film but this one had me laughing the entire time! and it got great reviews!

    the third one could be either tangled depending on how good it is or legen of the guardians which looks like it is visually stunning.

    Unfortunately it's also a pretty lousy movie.

    Can an animated movie be nominated for both Best Picture and Best Animate Feature at the same time?

    Yes. UP was last year. It lost Best Picture and won Best Animated Feature.

    I wonder if the fact that Disney is trying for the hat trick (both noms) a second year in a row will cause any backlash...

    The two ain't connected. In fact, most of the better animated features (and some of the not-so-hot ones as well) campaign for Best Picture. How To Train Your Dragon, for instance, declared itself a Best Picture contender in its recent promotional mailings.

    No reason not to, since one can vote for the same movie in both categories. Some Disney/PIXAR bigwigs are just being a bit crankier about it this year. Also keep in mind that the Oscars aren't the only movie awards with a "Best Picture" category.

    If TS3 loses the Best Animated Feature Oscar, it will have lost fair and square, and if it loses Best Picture, we can all have a heart attack and die from not surprised.

    The Academy will NEVER vote for a "cartoon" for Best Picture because most of the members do not consider cartoon making to be part of "their" industry. The overwhelming majority of them make their living making live action movies, and when it comes to Best Picture, they will not consider anything but a live action movie worthy of their vote.
