Since it's a British documentary, it's particular strength is showing just how alone the U.S. is in its stubborn denial of global warming as a man-made cause. Scientists from around the world are united, yet the U.S. refuses to budge. Of course, it's just a coincidence that so many Bush administration officials have ties to big oil and the auto industry.

If it sounds like a one-sided, nasty Michael Moorish documentary, it's not. They interview Republican Christie Todd Whitman, who was head of the EPA for sometime (though she has plenty of criticisms). They gave equal time to Bush's energy advisor. It's really an excellent piece.

I personally think the biggest lie from the Neo-Cons about global warming has been this portrayal of the debate as somehow a set of evenly balanced scales. On the one side are those people who believe it is real and man-made; on the other are those who either don't believe it at all or who simply argue it's a natural cycle. This is, of course, absurd.

The scales are tipped alarmingly in favor of those scientists in both the American and international community who believe global warming is real, is man-made, and must be addressed immediately. These are people who work for governments, universities, and non-profit organizations. You'll be hard pressed to find a scientist who isn't funded by the oil industry to tell you otherwise.

It reminds me of people who believe the Apollo moon landing was faked on a soundstage in Burbank. They're a tiny minority, but they're vocal and they're convinced they just know what every other reasonable human can't figure out.

I reluctantly went to see Al Gore's new documentary (An Inconventient Truth) on the weekend (paying $10 for a lecture on global warming was not my idea of a fun time) and the evidence was pretty compelling.

I got tired of viewing it in that tiny little window and did a search and found it available for download in a higher quality format - though it was a tv rip - not something sponsored by BBC.

Actually, Beau, ecdc had it right when he said "You'll be hard pressed to find a scientist who isn't funded by the oil industry to tell you otherwise." (i.e. to tell you that global warming wasn't for real).

This has only gotten to be more and more the case. You could probably count the number of "big time scientists" who aren't funded by oil or employed in the current admin. who say otherwise on the fingers of two hands, particularly from the last 3 years or so.

Does this mean we should divert funds from the threat of global warming, and focus on the threat of cloned dinosaurs run amok?
