I just got back from 10 days in Idaho, where I had the sad duty of saying goodbye to my 77 year old mother. She had been in shaky health for a few years now, and it finally all caught up to her. I don't know what the official cause of death was, but among other things in there were leukemia, congestive heart failure, and double pneumonia. My 3 brothers and I all came together and got to spend about 3 days in the hospital with her, although the quality of that experience diminished as she got sicker. It was finally decided on Friday, 11/7, to move from a curing mode to a hospice mode. She was able to go back to her own room in the assisted living center that's been her home for 4 years now. Hospice started the morphine, and it wasn't long before she took a breath and just didn't take the next one.

We were always a pretty close family, and I'm left with many wonderful memories of Mom (and of Dad, who left us in 1999). I think that since Mom had been getting worse for a few years now, I'm not really feeling any overwhelming grief. I think I've had plenty of time to get used to the idea, but it still ain't fun. My 3 brothers and I sang at graveside, and I must say we kicked some funeral butt!

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you all know what's been going on. Thanks for listening, my friends.

That you all came together and "kicked some funeral butt" is a good thing. Your loving memories of your Mom and Dad will sustain you through those expected and unexpected moments of missing them. Stay close with your family and you'll have times together, discussing your memories, that will bring you even closer.

It's really amazing, when you think about it. Everyone thinking of you today truly means it in their hearts, whatever it is they write to you...and the sheer power and majesty of so many people loving and thinking of you is simply overwhelming, when you consider it. I hope you can feel it.

I hope we get to meet some day so I can give you the hug I want to now. I will keep you in my heart today. ♥

We have been under similar circumstances with both my mother in law and my father. We knew it was coming, spent time, said our goodbyes, it was best for them to go and then when the time came it's still a shock.

Please accept my warm hugs for those moments when you remember "whoa, she is really gone."

Singing for her must have felt spectacular. What a wonderful thing to do.

Like you were were given a few days notice and it did make it easier so it was sudden and expected all at the same time.

I'm glad you kicked funeral butt as well.

My Grandad went out the sounds of "She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain"!!!
