There are two buses Crocket and Boone respectively that run regularlly inside Ft Wilderness for internal transport if the walking is too far a distance.

I'm sure you can expect more replies to your question. Good luck!

1.) you park right outside your door. no fighting for a close space in a huge parking lot or dragging your luggage, kids, etc. a long way to your room.
2.) there is a ton of space for a family of 4 (mine), queen size bed with a set of bunk beds in the bedroom which is seperated with a door from the living area/kitchen/and bathroom. as well as a pull down double bed in the living area.
as silly as it sounds, we always put our kids in the bedroom and sleep on the murphy bed in the living area, this gives us the privacy we need and the ability to use the bathroom and kitchen without waking the kids.
3.) the kitchen. There is a full size kitchen in the middle of the cabin which is great for making breakfast and late night snacks--a real money saver. there is also a deck and grill outside with a picnic table. (i've never used the grill, but have seen others do so.)
4.) the cabin itself is not connected to anything else so you do not have problems with thin walls and hearing every little thing your neighbors are doing.
5.) there are tons of activities at fort wilderness (check out allears.net for more info) camp fire movies, wagon rides, and the EWP to name a few.
6.) the only drawback are the pools, we're not pool people, we usually just go to the water parks, so my knowledge here is limited. but they never seem close to where i'm staying and they are not themed. i've seen people on the internal buses going to fort wilderness pools, but i'm sure you can always ask for a cabin close to a pool.

Have fun!

The whole Fort Wilderness area is a peaceful haven and a wonderful change of pace from the hubbub of the WDW Parks. One of the times we stayed there was during Easter week which is one of WDW’s peak times. Even though the parks were mobbed, Fort Wilderness was always quiet and relaxed.

Fort Wilderness has two pools and they are not themed. One is near the middle of the resort and one is located among the cabins. Your cabin could either be very close to the pool or a long ways from it. If you have a preference say so when you make your reservation. Disney can't guarantee location requests, but more often than not they can accommodate you.

I don't know how young your "little one" is, but I wouldn't let a child younger than 10 go to the pool alone. The resort is big, and every loop of cabins looks pretty much like the others. It would be easy for a child to become lost.

The atmosphere is so relaxed and quiet yet you are so close to everything. You can take the boat ride to MK or use the bus. AururaRose described the cabins to a "T". We also used to put the kids in the bedroom and use the living room murphy bed. If you decide to stay at the cabins, go ahead and reserve a golf cart from Mike's Bike Barn. And for fun, take some decorating lights to put on the golf cart!
Check out http://allearsnet.com for all the fun activities.
Ft. Wilderness is home to the Hoop-dee-do-Revue and the wonderful, *cough*cough* Trails End Buffet. You can't miss eating there!!! Best deal at WDW.
You will not be disappointed staying at Ft. Wilderness.
