Believe it or not, we're contemplating this. We're just looking for warm weather, a great resort, and really nice pools. When I think about, the Disney resorts are just about the nicest family resorts we know.

Heck, why not WDW without the parks?

It would be too tempting, frustrating, and quite frankly depressing to be on property for an extended period of time without going into any of the parks.

Personally, I like eating a Hersey's bar with Nacho Cheese Doritos, and that's not a taste everyone enjoys. You still gets Dinsey, you just don't have to deal with screaming children (I have 2 kids myself.) or people smoking by "No Smoking" signs. Have a great time.

I can absolutely see doing that. It will be very fun and relaxing. You don't always have to go into the parks. The resorts are wonderful, and to save money and still get the Disney experience, this would be very much the thing to do.

You are absolutely correct, iksnamhcok, what better place to go visit than the WDW resorts??? Perfect.

I say, go for it and have a great time. You can still ride the boats and other transportation to visit all the other resorts. This is something there really isn't much time for when you are trying to catch all the action in the parks. Stroll around Boardwalk; enjoy it at night. Take leisurely time in the shops and try new restaurants at the resorts. Sounds like fun to me.

Our next trip is sch for November 2006 for 10 days, but we will do 5 days in the parks this year.

I guess if you're into the convience of dining and entertainment (like at BW) steps from your door it pays to stay at WDW and go "parkless".

This could only work for me if I had an electronic obedience collar around my neck for the duration of my stay.

There is a lot to do but I, personally, cant go without going into the parks :p

I love to play a few rounds - I get the 2nd tee time after daybreak ( second because 12 minutes ( the gap) after dawn more of the dew is off the grass -- and I am back home by 9:30 - 9:45 the latest -- the whole day ahead of me

Because the point of WDW *is* the parks?

If you just want a family vacation, I can think of dozens of places to go. There is a whole real world out there beyond the World. Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone. Washington DC, Williamsburg, Los Angeles (with DL!)

If you've taken your family to these places, great. If not, PLEASE don't think that WDW is the 'best' place for family vacations.

because I only get so much vacation time and where I live 5 months a year I cannot play -- so if I can add a nice Florida course ( different grass and different feel) -without invading hardly any time on my vacation,I am going to do it. Most of the 3 1/2 hours I am playing my family is sleeping --

My job unfortunately keeps me locked to a pager/cell virtually 24 x 7. I am not complaining as they pay me well for it..but down time is not as frequent as I would like...I hope that makes sense as to why. You can play golf in Florida 12 months a year -- it is January -- the typical temp in Chicago is about 15 - 20, so if I was to fly to WDW, I would play a round.

I have played many beautiful courses -- in Hawaii, Arizona, california etc...usually when on a business trip or a vacation...and people would probably tell me the same thing there...why play when there is so much else to do. Well golf is one of the few things that at 50 I am still almost as good as when I was 21...not quite but close...and I really enjoy it.

The minature golf a little differnt to me which is why I have never played a round there , even though each year we say we will.

I think my obsession is cracking though. He is currently considering going to DLP to visit the parks!
