Nice to know that the folks in Imagineering haven't completely lost their minds.<<

So you think they haven't lost their minds?

    MILF rumor?
How about the first MILF to go through in WDW? Not to mention a horde of other attractions that are total jokes?

They lost their "creative" minds a long time ago!

Captain EO can be shown in any 3-D screening room with the right format. But it would most emphatically not be a full presentation of the show.

(P.S. Yes, it is true that the possibility that Captain EO will return exists. In the same sense, it is also possible that the entire Disneyland Resort could be returned to productive orange groves.)

New would be good, but I think it should stay as a theatre. That's the only movie theatre left in DL (don't count ST), while DCA has about 3 or more movie based shows.
Make more 3D movie. If Sea World can do it, why can't Disney? Sea World seems to switch out their 4D movies every 3 years...

I don't think TDA is to blame specifically - it seems to be higher-up than that. Disney seems to have decided that DL-style parks = Fantasy, so they can stick characters in whatever land they want. I think the old way of looking a Disneyland as a park with several themes is pretty much dead and gone - it's all about Fantasy now, with only a little effort being made to "fit" the characters into the specific themed-lands.

"Fantasy" fits into most any theme. It always has at Disneyland, anyway. When Walt was alive we had mermaids and a cross-eyed sea serpent in Tomorrowland, cactus that looked like the Seven Dwarfs in Frontierland, and singing flowers and Tiki gods in Adventureland. Fantasy isn't some new agenda that was suddenly discovered in the mid 1990s.

I don't know - the types of "fantasy" you described are a far different thing than having Toy Story and Monsters attractions in Tomorrowland, or British bears in the Old West.

Yes, I mispoke when I said that there wasn't "fantasy" in the old Disneyland - clearly talking birds and bears are fantasy. What I should have said was that the fantasy of the old parks always fit the theme, and wasn't just based on cramming movie-characters into the parks - not so much today.

I think there's a difference between fantasy (ie: Snow White) and whimsy (funny looking cactus in Frontierland. There's a directive by Disney executives to promote Disney's character brands across the spectrum wherever and whenever they can. That indeed is something that started in the last decade or so.

One thing is for sure, the EO costume got the most attention in the treasure room with almost EVERY person who walked by saying either "bring it back" or "I never got to see that show I hope disneybrings it back".

In one heart warming moment a little boy and girl walked up to the costume. The boy pointed at the poster and said "dad is that the new ride coming to Disneyland??" and the dad looked at it and said "maybe".

I swear im not making any of this up.

As far as the anecdotal stories shared above, they are undeniably charming, but largely meaningless. I was there and heard people sort of snickering over how dated the whole thing looked.

(And did the nice little boy point at costumes for Gisselle, TRON or Gabriella and ask if they were new rides coming to Disneyland, too? Kind of weird in that context, no?)

The costume was dated, try the entire movie. Talking to people who were around when it first opened said their first impression was that the movie was cheap.

I think you only want to reissue the high quality stuff.

I was there, my children. At a Cast Member preview at EPCOT Center's Imagination Pavilion -- 1986.

And when Jackson made his grand appearance as Captain EO, and muttered in his little falsetto 'we're goin' in' -- we all laughed.

I don't know if I would say it 'looks' cheap, as much as I would say it looks like it was done quickly.

Lots of gaffes (a roll of duct tape on the floor, mistakes (one dancer is spinning when he clearly should not be), and weird things (like being able to see the puppeteer's arm as he's playing that butterfly character on Jackson's shoulder) -- gives me the impression that there wasn't any time to go back and re-shoot.
