I guess it has all to do with the new Disney Springs. A lot of the current DTD is goinf to be damolished to make place for the new Disney Springs.

They're being demolished to build a new, permanent bridge between that section of the Marketplace over to the former PI (not sure what that section will be called when all is done). I'm sure the marina will return in some form in a different location...appears to be rental boats in the renderings, plus it must be relatively easy profit for Disney.

The concept art I've seen gives me hope that the replacement will have a lot of charm too, though I haven't seen any renderings of the Village area

That's also interesting that all of the old shops were run by Disney. It seems like every time Disney takes control of a store these days, it gets turned into more of the same merchandise we can find anywhere; it would be great to see some of the really unique (even if kitschy by today's standards) shops return

As for a timeline, I believe they're planning to open things in phases, with the project being complete in 2015 or 2016

pick up an old early to mid'80s Birnbaum guide...you'll see how truly unique and theme-appropriate the shopping was back then...not only in the Village, but MK and the resorts too (Contemporary had a full menswear and women's wear stores and a jewelry shop) and most, if not all, operated and merchandised by Disney.
