Catalina is about 20 nautical miles off the shore, so it would really take some powerful winds to get the flames to the mainland. Even though the fires in Griffith park were on the other side of downtown LA, they are actually closer to DL, and have a much higher (although still very low) chance of reaching all the way to DL. While the coverage may scare some people who aren't from Southern California away, it will really have no affect on the operations of the park. (Certainly a whole lot less than a few weeks ago when there were hills in Anaheim that were on fire)
