    >>Charlton Heston, the Oscar-winning actor who achieved stardom playing larger-than-life figures including Moses, Michelangelo and Andrew Jackson and went on to become an unapologetic gun advocate and darling of conservative causes, has died. He was 84.

Heston died Saturday at his Beverly Hills home, said family spokesman Bill Powers.<<

He was great in his sci-fi films as well: Omega Man, Soylent Green and um...uh...what was it...something about apes or monkeys...Monkeys Go Home, I think it was... ;)

No reason to keep all these videos from being seen, right?

In the 1970's he was the go-to guy in a some big budget disaster movies, "Earthquake", "Airport 1975". He desperately wanted to play the role of Chief Martin Brody in "Jaws", but being that he had played so many larger than life roles, he seemed much too "big" for the little island resort of Amity, and Roy Scheider won the role.

One of my favorite Heston movies was a western called "Will Penny" that's shown pretty regularly on AMC. Check it out sometime.

    What a treasure!

I also loved Ben Hur, The Agony and the Ecstasy, and The Omega Man was a favorite of mine for a long time.
