"I play Rapunzel, who is a squirrel who falls in love with a basset hound," Chenoweth says, before bursting into laughter at the concept. "I can't even really describe it to you without sounding like a crazy person. Maybe it's these antibiotics I've been on."

    Is she serious?

ORDDU: From other reports we've read, there is talk about some contemporary characters from the modern world who sort of stumble into Rapunzel's story and end up having a parallel experience that somewhat mirror's what Rapunzel is going through. But it all sounds so convoluted and mixed up that it begs the question: Why not stick with a straight forward telling of the story?!

ORWEN: These current plans seem to be a perfect reciped for disaster. It looks as though we'll never get a decent version of RAPUNZEL out of Disney, after all. And it's a crying shame!!!

"I am Rapunzel, but Rapunzel is a squirrel," Chenoweth said in an interview. "I can't really tell you much more [about the story] than that, other than I'm a squirrel and I'm going to let down my tail."

This art makes it look a little more traditional, but I hate the "fractured fairytale" schtick.

You have the original concept art. Then you have that vague synopsis (modern girl in fairy tale) with the announcement of Kristen and Reese being cast. And then you have these weirdo comments from Kristen. It's three different movies!

By the way, I saw no mention of a Rapunzel movie in the annual report they just released.

That's because Eisner doesn't give a crap what happens to Disney after next year.

(If so, she's been keeping secrets from me again!)

ORGOCH: That's cause she knows what a big BLABBER mouth ya is!!

    Oh. OK.

What I thought was weird about the annual report was that it mentioned Wilbur Robinson coming out in 2006, and then said that Chris Sanders's American Dog was in production. Rapunzel is supposed to be 2007, yet there's no mention at all. Should we be worried?

I thought the painting of Rapunzel washing her hair down the waterfall was a cool image, but we'll have to wait and see...

In the original story, she wasn't allowed out of her tower for ANY reason--until she was banished by a certain nasty old biddy--not Orgoch THIS time.

ORDDU: As for a possible side story--with a squirrel, I don't suppose anyone would mind THAT so much--as long as the squirrel doesn't turn out to be Rapunzel, herself. (We still lament the fact that, many years ago, Disney hired some witch to transform poor Robin Hood into a FOX, of all things!!)

That's true. But perhaps it's a "dream sequence" and she imagines herself free again. I supposed with all those locks and no shampoo for all that time, washing her hair might be something she longs to do (no pun intended.) Maybe to escape her boredom, just sitting in a tower all that time, she daydreams of a life "out there" somewhere.

P.S. I trust Glen Keane, but please don't make her be a squirrel...
