I was kidding about the "Spanish, French, etc..." thing because it's easy (relatively) for a speaker of a Roman language to learn another. It's a far greater challenge for someone from Asla (growing up with an ENTIRELY different writing system, not to mention languages that absolutely do NOT correspond to Roman style languages at all) to speak or write in English. I know this, because I am currently working on writing Japanese Kanji (you must know this, being a native speaker and writer of Chinese, right?).
