A few years ago a Mimi's opened right here in good old Loveland. For the first few years that place was packed. Then other chain restaurants popped up around it, just as the slowdown hit two years ago. Now most of these places are usually half empty, even on Fridays and Saturdays and that includes Mimi's. The first chain to close in our town was the Black Eyed Pea and I expect others will follow as there are way too many chain eateries here.

I eat out about twice a week and I've noticed that there are hardly any waits anyhwere on a Friday or Saturday night anymore. At the same time, I've made a conscious decision to shift all of my dining business to locally owned establishments and am not visiting any of the national chains. I figure that I'd rather help a local restauranteur weather the store than the board of directors for a dining chain that is making most of its meals in the microwave anyway.
