I think that's the perfect SF solution: Something completely impractical, and an overboard response to something. They should simply fix the zoo. But in SF not even the simplest things can get done. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/ article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/03/19/MNERVM27K.DTL

The article called it a "rescue center" -- the animals would still be on exhibit. Basically it would be a place to send exotic animals that have been ill-treated elsewhere, and the people behind this idea suggest that some of the zoo's conservation efforts and breeding programs for endangered species might be "grandfathered" in. But it does sound like pretty much a dead-end concept, and an overreaction, too. It's pretty clear what needs to be done to fix the zoo.

Sadly the people of San Francisco may lose a zoo because of the stupidity of one person. This does seem typical of the SF leadership though.
Originally Posted By jonvn "Wasn't it the kid's fault that the tiger mauled him" No. Because the tiger got out of his cage. "I thought I remember reading that the kid was drunk and taunting the tiger" Does not matter. The tiger can't get out of its cage. Now if the kid opened the cage, or climb into the cage, that's another thing, but the tiger was able to get out, for whatever reason. "Sadly the people of San Francisco may lose a zoo because of the stupidity of one person." They will lose the zoo because it, like absolutely everything else in SF, is run in an absolutely abysmal manner.
