Heck, you even see a little boy try to hold back the girl in pink, then she breaks away from him and SHOVES the cop. So, the cop punches her. I feel the cop was completely justified in hitting her; anyone here disagree?

In that case, you let it happen and then get a lawyer afterward, which sucks more or less depending on what it is. I don't know how a jaywalking stop alone could set somebody off like that. Tons of possible theories -Cop touched her inappropriately. -Chick was high as a kite. -Cop said something racist. Who knows?

If you would like to know if it's okay to leave, simply ask the officer politely, "Am I being detained or am I free to go?" That's how you know. But it was clear his intention was to bust them for jaywalking.

I see people crossing feet from the crosswalk here...how hard is it to just use it? I just don't do it because I don't trust the cabs...they are crazy drivers and I've almost been hit even when using the crosswalk...

"Are you kiddin' me heah? For jaywalkin'? Are you from freakin' Dubuque or somethin'" (Except they wouldn't say "freakin.'") < just don't do it because I don't trust the cabs...they are crazy drivers and I've almost been hit even when using the crosswalk...> Boy howdy. I won't jaywalk either if I look down the street and see yellow. Because they'll be on top of you faster than you'd ever think possible. Any other color and I'll do it - gotta save that extra 5 seconds you save by not actually crossing at the corner... The height of the bike messenger era (80's-early 90's) was actually the most dangerous time to be a pedestrian in NY. Because they had no compunction about going the wrong way on a one-way street or darting out of impossibly small spaces. Now THOSE guys were kamikazes.

Never in a million years would I have talked back and shoved a police officer, not now, nor at 17 years old. That street is crazy busy, busy enough for them to build a pedestrian bridge but this group was just too damn lazy to use it. I get so sick of people walking in the middle of the street because they're too lazy to walk an additional 30 feet to the crosswalk. (I think they deserve to be run over but I digress...) And her snotty butt didn't look to be in any pain while she sat, pouting in the back of the cop car. I didn't see any red marks on her face and her eyes weren't tearing up (in fear, remorse or from getting punched-quite a feat, imo.)

Hooting and catcalling, provoking, trying to whip up a frenzy.
