try this..if it doesn't work, if you scroll down the page, there is a topic heading, how to tell the kids. There are some very cool ideas there. Have fun and enjoy your trip!!!!

Oh, and however you decide to tell them, make sure you have your video camera ready for the reaction.

You could do a scavenger hunt now that Easter is past. Our kids really loved it. Good luck & have fun!

Very cool! I wish my parents did stuff like that when I was a kid!

Quick surprise story....my wife and I surprised our two boys (7 and 10 yrs old) last October. We picked them up from school on a Friday afternoon and asked them if they were hungry. They said yes so we said we were taking them out to lunch. We went to the airport (Sacramento) for lunch because they love watching the planes take-off and land. We had some bags and checked them in telling them we had to do that in order to get the "pass" that allows you to go to the secure area of the terminal where the restaurants are better. To our surprise, they believed it. As we were eating lunch, we said, "Hey wouldn't it be fun to sneak on an airplane and take a quick trip somewhere?!" They were skeptical but my 7 year-old saw a flight to Orange County leaving in the next hour and suggested we try that one (he wanted to see DL from the air). We hopped on and the boys were thrilled (and a little afraid we were going to get caught), still no clue what we were doing and thinking we were the craziest parents ever.

When we landed at John Wayne, we said we had some time to kill before we flew back home so we thought we'd walk through the garage to see if someome left their keys in the door so that we could take the car and go do a drive-by by Disneyland. We went to the rental car area (National) where my son spotted keys in a door and we rushed to the car and hopped in. Again, the kids thought we were nuts - but still didn't figure out what we were doing.

We drove straight to the hotel (Marriott Suites) pulled out their Halloween costumes and told them to get dressed because we were taking them to the DL Halloween Trick or Treat party. They were shocked, thrilled, etc. But it still took them a couple minutes to figure out the whole thing was planned.

We stayed the weekend, had a great time and went home late Sunday. There's nothing more fun as a parent than surprising your kids with a DL trip!
