    Steve Irwin did what he did to further global awareness of the importance of conservation and the environment. If there are some noble causes worth laying down your life for in the line of duty, I'd say that's one of them.

    ^^^ In addition (IMO), Steve probably didn't really think he was risking his life. I mean, he was a trained professional and as it is, he didn't die wrestling a snake or a crocodile or any of his more daring pursuits. I mean, *I've* swum with sting rays.

    It's such sad news!
    I really feel for his family.
    My phone has been ringing from friends that are all shocked by this news.

    We loved watching Steve as he was so positive and such a good animal conservationist.
    Australia and the world will miss him heaps!

    It sounds like it was all just some sort of freak accident. How terribly sad, my family too loved his shows. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family.
