I have a little bit of info on the subject, and I know a lot of it is true, as Leemac echos some of my claims.

It's taken 'em years to get around to simply announcing a plan to do something on WDW property in Florida. That probably speaks more to the fact that this thing is supposedly being run by about a dozen loveable geeks sitting in over-decorated cubicles in Burbank, and they simply don't have the resources to plan and do stuff in Florida. It's easier for them to drive down to Anaheim for the weekend. But it probably should have been called "D23 - The Ultimate Southern California Disney Fan Community".
