Because the new entry plaza is going to be a recreation of Hollywood when Walt first came to California .... I thought of: Walt's Eureka! That’s why I said if it weren’t such a huge success… blah blah. Like you said, the name is now synonymous with high quality theme park entertainment on an international level. I was only pointing out that like DCA the name Disneyland could be considered rather unimaginative and dull. Kind of like the many different kinds of kitschy businesses around the country with the word "land” in them. Remember Marineland in Southern California? And isn’t there a park called Bibleland in or near Orlando? Launderland, a laundromat here in San Francisco, also comes to mind. The DCA name is fine. It’s the product and reputation of that product that needs to be brought up to par.

Even just 'California' could have been cool. And I hear you Hans. Disneyland, because it is successful, is a great name. If the park across from Disneyland had been named 'D' -- and been enormously entertaining and well produced, the name wouldn't matter.

"Disneyland" as a name is an institution worldwide, which is why they keep using it for every new Magic Kingdom styled park ever since the one at WDW. "Epcot" is a very distinctive name for a concept that's not likely ever going to be cloned anywhere else. "Disney's Hollywood Studios" and "Disney Studios Paris" are names for parks that are themed to a whole global industry. "Disney's Animal Kingdom" is a name for a park that celebrates the entire world of earth's creatures. "Tokyo Disney Sea" is the name for a park that celebrates the vast spectrum of our connection to the water. Compared to all of those lofty concepts, "Disney's 'California' Adventure" has always been too focused to one small part of the world and as such is a lazy, uninspired name for an overly simplified park when compared to the much farther reaching attempts the company has made with all their other parks. I still despise the theme in general, and the use of the name "California" in the name of the park in particular. As long as the park has the name "California" in it, I think it will be perceived as that little provincial regional baby park compared to the other parks. Now please don't y'all come back with the debate over whether or not "California" is a worthy and adequate enough theme to build a whole park around. Those that feel that the answer is "yes it is" have valid arguments and if any state comes close to filling the bill, California is the state. We've all beaten that debate to death - I'm just saying I'd rather that "California" not be in the name of the park. Especially now since everything that is being added to it is rather generic in theme so that it fits practically anywhere and is NOT exclusive to California. So that's my opinion, but if they do decide to keep "California" in the name, with the result that they'll be handcuffed to the requirement that anything that gets added forever onward has to artificially have some tenuous tie-in to "California" (ie, "Disney's Electrical Parade - A California Classic"), then for gosh sakes strip off the silly "Adventure" from the title. And do something unique for once and get rid of the "Disney's" part of the name as well. In that case, I think I could live with "Walt Disney's California".
