"I'm going to announce tomorrow that I'm not running for reelection and that I'm going to leave Congress," DeLay, who turns 59 on Saturday, said during a 90-minute interview on Monday. "I'm very much at peace with it." He notified President Bush in the afternoon. DeLay and his wife, Christine, said they had been prepared to fight, but that he decided last Wednesday, after months of prayer and contemplation, to spare his suburban Houston district the mudfest to come. "This had become a referendum on me," he said. "So it's better for me to step aside and let it be a referendum on ideas, Republican values and what's important for this district." <<

Delay was one of the crookedest politicians in Washington. Our government and the GOP is better off without this stain.

Well, isn't that special? Isn't it interesting that some of DeLay's most vocal supporters in these parts also want a closer connection between religion and government?

And isn't it interesting that some of those most vocal about "personal responsibility" NEVER recognize when they have done wrong, and always manage to blame others for their own misdeeds? It's really easy to promote personal responsibility and harsh treatment for wrongdoers when you manage to twist things in your own mind so that you can do no wrong yourself.

Now that he no longer has to worry about re-election, I would guess he will plea bargain away his legal issues fairly soon. Most likely, he will get away with a big fine and some community service time.

All things most sane Americans reject.. with or without Delay kicking democrat a$$.

Now that Delay is gone making huge cash on the speech circuit, who are the dems going to try and demonize? After all, they only run on the politics of personal destruction and never actually have a plan to help the country.

So they need to find a new target to create a " scandal " for.

If Delays seat was going to be won by a dem then I would worry.. but this is not the situation.

Who said it didn't? Awfully nice to see it work here though, don't you think? And if he was truly innocent of everything, then he would be expected to stay on and fight all the injustice, don't you think? But,it's nice to note he resigned.

I love how certain people are so fast to claim someone is guilty before a trial has even started.

By dropping out Delay lets another republican with no " scandal " win his seat and he gets to make more than the $150k he makes as a congressman.

Not to mention he is tired of the BS and is ready to move on.

The libs hate him because he was so effective as a Republican. So they now celebrate that the guy who kicked them around with ease for years.. is now gone.

LOL, what was the libs plan to win the war on terror again?? Give all terrorists the right to gay marriage??
