My ex got me out of bed in the middle of the night because she saw one in the backyard where we kept our dogs. I was out there in my boxers and sandles in the dark trying to kill it with a shovel. Fun times. The good part is they are small and don't strike like other snakes. You actually have to like step on them to get bitten. But they are the most poisonous snake in North America.

There is a 'rattler' species which hangs out in the desert southwest(mojave rattler) which delivers a neurotoxin unlike with which you probably got tagged(hemotoxin).

My sister & I were walking up to the resort when we saw the sign and then saw the croc! It was a small one. As long as you stay away, I don't think they bother you.
